National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education

You can choose between two security informatics Master’s degree programs: the Master’s of Security in Security Informatics (MSSI) and the Master’s of Science in Computer Security (MSCS). You will take different classes to obtain a Master’s in security depending on your choice of the MSSI or MSCS. If you choose the MSCS, your program will involve strictly technical classes. The MSSI has an interdisciplinary focus and requires at least one business or economics course as well as more applied laboratory experience. You also have the option of pursuing the Master’s of Science Degree in Human Computer Interaction and Security.

Security Informatics and Computer Security

The Security Informatics program is built upon three columns. First there is the study of security. Second is the understanding of informatics core, which consists of courses on social or organizational informatics of security. Third is the professional element that requires application of the three areas of knowledge in a comprehensive applied manner. Security Informatics is also available as an area of concentration within the Master’s in Computer Science.

Human Computer Interaction and Security Program

The Master’s of Science Degree in Human Computer Interaction and Security (HCI/Sec) is a thirty-six hour program of study. Twenty-four credit hours are required of all HCI students. Nine credit hours are required in security. There is one open elective, which need not be HCI or security. This course of study is suitable for students from a wide range of backgrounds.
