Bioinformatics
Overview
The bioinformatics master’s degree is a two-year professional program aimed at providing its graduates with the skills and experiences they’ll need to work professionally in a career in bioinformatics. Several of our students continue on to obtain a Ph.D. and our program is excellent preparation for an academic career. So, what is bioinformatics? Bioinformatics is an exciting, interdisciplinary and evolving field that is a confluence of:
- Life Sciences: molecular biology, biochemistry, biology, medicine
- Computer Science: cyber-infrastructure, Internet, algorithmic development, design, and implementation, machine learning, data mining, graphs, high-performance computing, parallelization
- Statistics: models, parameter estimation, probabilistic algorithms, use of commercial statistical packages
- Data: genomic, proteomic, glycomic, protein-protein interactions, phenotypic expression, genetic interaction, gene expression arrays, electronic health records
This confluence aims at better understanding and improving life.
