Sun Kim
Bloomington. Prior to IU, he
worked at DuPont Central
Research as Senior Computer Scientist from 1998 to 2001, and at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1997 to 1998 as
Director of Bioinformatics and Postdoctoral Fellow at the
Biotechnology Center and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Animal
Sciences . Sun Kim received B.S and M.S and Ph.D in Computer Science
from Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science
and Technology (KAIST) (Advisor Song C. Moon), and the University of
Iowa (Advisor Alberto Maria Segre) respectively.
Sun Kim is a recipient of Outstanding Junior Faculty Award at Indiana
University 2004-2005, NSF CAREER Award DBI-0237901 from 2003 to 2008,
Achievement Award at DuPont Central Research in 2000, and a best
poster award at Beckman Institute Symposium on Bioinformatics,
Structure, and Function, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in
1997.
Sun Kim's research interest includes sequence clustering, motif
(pattern) discovery, comparative genomics, string pattern matching,
machine learning. One important goal is to pursue collaborative
research with biologists and medical sciences. The current
collaborative projects are to develop algorithms and systems for
microbial genome annotation and comparison,
funded by grants from National Science Foundations, and to analyze and
model epigenetic changes in cancer genomes, funded by a grant from
National Cancer Institute.
